  • Liverpool have now scored two or more goals in their last 18 games
  • Mo Salah bagged a brace as Henderson and Jota also scored in a 4-1 rout
  • The win leaves the Reds third on the log, two points behind league leaders Chelsea

Mohammed Salah continued his incredible goal-scoring form as he scored twice in Liverpool’s emphatic win over Everton in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday, December 1.

The Reds proved too strong for Rafa Benitez, whose Everton side have now gone eight Premier League games without a win.

Having won only once at Goodison Park in their last nine visits, Jurgen Klopp’s side were too strong for their city neighbours from the start.

It was Jordan Henderson who opened the scoring after nine minutes with a composed finish, before Mohammed Salah gave his side a two-goal cushion 10 minutes later.

Everton tried to make a contest out of the derby by halving the deficit in the first half through Demarai Gray, who ran onto a pass by Richarlison to slot it past Alisson seven minutes before the break, but it was Liverpool who possessed all the quality.

The Premier League’s top scorer Salah, made it 3-1 after 63 minutes as he cashed in on a Seamus Coleman error to race through to slot his second of the day, before the in-form Diogo Jota made it 4-1 by taking Andy Robertson’s pass, beating Allan to fire past Jordan Pickford.

A number of irate Everton fans had already seen enough with the scores 4-1 with 11 minutes to play, and there were patches of empty seats throughout the stadium by the time the full-time whistle kicked in.

Liverpool show their class again, Everton in a rut

The win ensured Liverpool kept pace with the other two big guns in the title race Chelsea and Manchester City, who won their games against Watford and Aston Villa respectively.

Jurgen Klopp’s side also continued with their impressive record of scoring twice or more in matches, a run that has gone well over 18 games.

For Everton, it is back to the drawing board as Rafa Benitez’s side continues a torrid run of form, with fans at the Merseyside derby at some point chanting “sack the board”.
