  • In June this year, Elizabeth Mueni Maingi thought her life would change for the better after meeting Deputy President William Ruto
  • Ruto made various promises to her such as expanding her business, taking her daughter back to school and building her a home
  • Three months down the line, Mueni is in pain because she feels as if she was lied to and used for image, and political mileage

The Machakos woman who became a sensation after selling maize to Deputy President William Ruto has accused the second in command of lying to her and failing to fulfil the promises he made.

Elizabeth Mueni thought her life would never be the same after meeting the deputy president on June 28, 2021, during his stopover at Machakos where she sold him green maize.

In a video shared, Mueni, who even later visited the deputy president’s Karen residence, said the DP made a myriad of promises to her, which have all remained unfulfilled to date.

The tear-filled woman questioned why the DP was yet to fulfil his pledges to take his daughter back to school, expand her business and build her a home.

“Why haven’t you fulfilled any of the promises you made to me? Why? I thought my life would change,” she said amidst.

The maize trader is bewildered that even after having a one on one with the DP in his Karen residence, he completely forgot about her and all the promises.

She narrated she had tried seeking an audience with the DP through texts, letters and even calls but was not able to reach him.

“You have the bottom up vision, but do you really know what bottom up is? I am where you left me. Everyone was happy to see my photos with you, but you just vanished after that,” Mueni cried.

Her daughter, whom she had hoped would go back to school through the DP’s help is now back to working as a househelp as they do not see any hope in sight.

Cocktail of emotions

As TUKO.co.ke reported, the woman was left with a cocktail of emotions after Deputy President William Ruto supported her gig by purchasing green maize from her.

When handing over the maize to the DP, the woman became emotional and could not control herself. Moments later, she broke into celebration as tears of joy rolled down her cheeks.

A week after selling the maize to Ruto, she visited his Karen residence where she held talks with him.

“Mama Mueni’s dream is to give her two children a different life- a good life. This is exactly what the bottom-up economic model is about; delivering empowerment to Kenyans like Mama Elizabeth,” Ruto posted on his social media platforms during the visit.
